The Importance of a Gaming Headset
Video games have become leagues more immersive today than they ever have been. Not only do they allow people from around the world to connect together and play, but seamlessly incorporate communication and teamwork as well.
Players today have the ability to communicate via voice, or text messages they can send together on the fly. They also have the ability to share screenshots and snippets of game footage to social media for their friends (and everyone else) to see.
Of these features, the latter two are built-in to modern gaming consoles and don’t require any extra hardware. However, when it comes to voice communication and chat, you will need a dedicated gaming headset to communicate with other players via voice during a game.
Some gaming consoles come with a headset bundled with them. However, these generally aren’t very high quality and have fewer features built into them as higher end gaming headsets.
Other Gaming Headsets to Consider
What to Look for in a Gaming Headset
If you choose to shop around for a higher quality, more expensive headset for gaming, there are several important features you want to look out for. A proper gaming headset will add a much greater sense of immersion into the game.
It will also allow you to better hear both the sounds of the game and the voices of fellow teammates who also have a gaming headset. A Proper gaming headset will also be noise-isolating, blocking out any external sounds not related to your gaming session.
This will further enhance your level of immersion and give your games and added a sense of realism. Here are several features you might want to consider when buying a gaming headset:
Wired vs. Wireless
Both features have their pros and cons. A wireless headset removes the nuisance of dealing with wires getting in the way of your vision or controller.
It also lets you forget about accidentally walking away from your controller while still wearing the headset on (a good pair of headphones will feel so immersed that you will forget they are even there) and yank on the wires by mistake.
However, there are of course some obvious cons. One of which is battery life. There are some headsets out there that will last a long time — some will last around 20 – 30 hours on a single charge.
But it can be easy to forget to charge them and lose power in the middle of a session. In addition, your gaming console (or computer) has to be compatible with Bluetooth in order to use them. You can always buy a Bluetooth adapter for consoles lacking such compatibility, however.
This is something we’ve already covered (mostly) in the previous point. This is really only an issue for devices lacking Bluetooth connectivity.
If you’re using a wired headset, just be sure to make sure that your audio jack is 3.5 mm (though most already are) to ensure that it will fit into the audio port found on consoles and PCs.
It is highly recommended to use a wired headset for anyone using gaming laptops or portable devices, as they may not have Bluetooth built into them by default.
You will want a headset that produces crisp, high-quality sound. The higher quality it is, the better you will be able to hear what’s going on. A premium gaming headset will allow you to hear sounds you would never have been able to hear before.
These are just an example of the things you should look for in a decent gaming headset. Below, we’ll review the CORSAIR VOID PRO RGB and why we think this headset is perfect for the needs of every gamer.
